Multiplication - objectives for the year recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 2, 5 and 10 multiplication tables calculate mathematical statements for multiplication within the multiplication tables and write them using the multiplication (×), division (÷) and equals (=) signs solve problems involving multiplication, using materials, arrays, repeated addition, mental methods, and multiplication facts, including problems in contexts Recognise that multiplication questions can be completed in any order, but division can not.

This is the children putting their Maths knowledge into action Using and applying involves pupils in solving problems, explaining their methods and results, and using their Mathematics, particularly to reason (mainly through questions) Using and applying is used in all aspects of the Maths curriculum It is where pupils use their knowledge and understanding of mathematics to solve problems.
19
Let’s have a go at some Using and Applying so you can put into practice what you have learnt here Puzzles and Problems – Sum up, card sharp Recipe Questioning by the teacher
20
Reasons behind the removal of levels: ◦ Level driven curriculum ◦ Used to much ◦ Negative impact on teaching Problems with levels ◦ Are they fair? ◦ Impact on teaching and learning ◦ Not regular enough Benefits of assessment without levels ◦ Clarity for pupil and parents ◦ Support for pupils
21
Purpose of day to day assessment for parents: ◦ Broad picture of where their child’s strengths and weaknesses lie and what they need to improve ◦ Collins objectives ◦ Teachers will assess every objective ◦ Informs about the achievement, progress and wider outcomes of their child across a period of time, not just a one day SNAPSHOT! You will now ONLY receive narrative comments and an effort grade in the report

We have recognised at times Sumdog can be quite difficult for KS1 pupils Feedback from parents and teachers Element of challenge Who to contact if you are unhappy with homework Excellent Maths websites to help your children at home: http://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks1/maths/ http://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/5-7- years/counting Multiplication video
