4 B. Battle of Shiloh 1.Confederates attacked Grant in the early morning on April 6, 1862 2.The goal was control of the Mississippi River

5 3. The Battle lasted two days and was very bloody 4. It was a Union victory

6 C. The Fall of New Orleans 1.Making his way down the Mississippi, Grant set his sights on New Orleans and control of the Mississippi

7 2.Admiral Farragut was in command of the attack from the sea 3.Once New Orleans was captured and the Union was able to use the Mississippi to reach Vicksburg
