3. Beausset today: Le Beausset is a typical Provencal little town. There are 8,972 inhabitants for 36 square miles. Le Beausset is crossed by the river Reppe, as well as by its 2 tributaries, the Darbousse and The Capucine. Claude Richard is the Mayor. Beausset Vieux: At the origin, in the roman times, it was located at the top of a steep slope le Beausset vieux because the plains were too swampy to be inhabited,. The site of Beausset-Vieux was abandoned in 1506, and because the soil was drier the people could settle in the plains.
