Lab #8 Solutions Chemistry 108 Instructor: Kristine Cooper
2
Mixture A substance containing two or more substances mixed together. Homogenous mixtures are uniform in compositions. Heterogenous mixtures are not uniform in composition.
3
Saturated vs. Unsaturated In a saturated solution, the solvent contains the maximum amount of solute. Conversely, unsaturated solutions do not contain the maximum amount of solute the solution can hold.
4
% by Weight (mass) How many grams of sugar are in 500g of a 10% sugar solution?
5
% by Volume A solution is made by mixing 10mL of alcohol in with 50mL of water. What is the % by volume of the alcohol?
6
Molarity (M) MOLES PER LITER What is the molarity of a solution obtained by dissolving 35g of KOH in enough water to prepare 2L of solution?
7
Molality (m) MOLES PER KILOGRAM If 8.50g of KBR is combined with 500g of water to form a solution, what is the molality of the solution?
