3 TRIO-CINEMA 3 UCB, 2/08/2010 LVPS Requirements Summary LVPS converts bus voltage (~8V) to regulated analog voltages for STEIN and MAGIC LVPS switches analog and digital voltages to STEIN and MAGIC LVPS switches 8V bus to: –MAGIC boom actuator –UHF antenna actuator –STEIN attenuator actuators –Torque coils (2 polarities) –Spare LVPS shares a PC104 board with the Instrument Interface FPGA

5 TRIO-CINEMA 5 UCB, 2/08/2010 LVPS Implementation Schematic complete Deigned using commercial power converter ‘bricks’ –Calex 1W converters Instrument switches include overcurrent shutdown –latchup protection, testing protection Processor controls ‘Instrument’ switch which powers FPGA, MAGIC FPGA controls STEIN switch, Bus voltage switches –No protection on bus switches (part not available) Schematic provided to Hien Vo students for starting layout –Still needs FPGA, connectors added Fabrication and test plans TBD

6 TRIO-CINEMA 6 UCB, 2/08/2010 Issues Need to complete IIB schematics before layout can proceed Need to verify overcurrent circuit does not trip on instrument worst case consumption –Can replace with parts with no limit, but increased risk of latchup failure, bench testing failure.
