Grace Fellowship Church www.GraceDoctrine.org Pastor/Teacher - Jim Rickard Thursday, December 11, 2008

Memory Verse Gal 5:16, “Walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.”

The Upper Room Discourse John 13-16 John 13:27-29 Grace vs. Evil

“What you do, do quickly”

“What you do, do quickly” a) You are already betraying me in your soul.

“What you do, do quickly” a) You are already betraying me in your soul. b) The Satan possessed Judas is commanded to leave the scene.

Principles: 1) The Lord Jesus Christ in His humiliation is infinitely more powerful than all of the power that Satan has or ever will have.

2) Reversionism creates a total disillusionment, which can eventuate in possession or attempted harm to ones self.

3) As a result of reversionism in an unbeliever they can come into direct contact with Satan or a demon(s).

4) The unbeliever can not drink the cup of the Lord and at the same time drink the cup of Satan, nor should the believer. 1 Cor 10:21

5) The unbeliever rejects the cup of the Lord that represents the cross and salvation.

Our Lord honored Judas with the morsel, then dismissed him and then instituted the Lord's Supper meant for believers only.

John 13:28-29 A contrast between Grace and Evil.

Principle: Jesus has a respect for the traitor’s privacy. “No one of those reclining at the table”.

Apart from Peter and John, the disciples did not know from the observation of the morsel dipping, exactly what was going on.

“For some were supposing.” This is subjective thinking, trying to stick your nose into other people’s business.

Contrast between Grace and Evil:

Grace:

Grace: 1. Jesus washed the feet of the unbeliever - vs. 5-12 (lesson of forgiveness).

Grace: 2. He taught the unbeliever about sacrifice and service. vs. 12-17

Grace: 3. He gave the unbeliever privacy to make his own decisions. vs. 18-26, 28-29

Grace: 4. He openly warned him, thus giving every opportunity to change his mind. vs. 10, 18, 20, 21, 26

Grace: 5. He gave honor to the unbeliever. vs. 26

Evil:

Evil: 1. The unbeliever receives without gratitude. Accepted the material blessings but not the spiritual blessings. vs. 30

Evil: 2. Satan did not allow the unbeliever to make his own decisions. vs. 2 & 27

Evil: 3. Evil forces decisions and actions.

Evil: 4. Evil operates at night. vs. 30 with Luke 22:53; 1 Thes 5:4-10

Phil 3:15, “…and if in anything you have a different attitude, God will reveal that also to you.”
