Fungi

Fungi Characteristics  Cells- Multicellular…They have tissues and simple organs. They have cell walls but NO chlorophyll.  DNA- In a nucleus… Eukaryote!  Reproduce- Sexual and Asexual…some use spores (mixed traits) and some copy and divide (identical traits)  Grow and Develop- some add cells to grow their hyphae and mycelium.  Sense and Respond-Temperature and Moisture.  Use Energy- CONSUMERS! Decomposers and parasites. They digest their food first…then absorb it!

Fungi Cells

Fungi Types  Thread-like Fungi  Sac Fungi  Club Fungi  Nonmushroom Club Fungi  Imperfect Fungi  Lichens- Plant and Fungi mutualism

Thread-like Fungi  Molds- Mostly decomposers

Sac Fungi  Morels, mildews, truffles and yeast.  Food/antibiotics  Parasites that cause disease

Club Fungi  Mushrooms- Decomposers

Nonmushroom Club Fungi  Bracket Fungi, Puffballs, Smut and Rust..Decomposers and Parasites.

Imperfect Fungi  Athlete’s Foot, pennicillium- parasites..antibiotics and food

Lichens Lichens are a fungus and a plant that plant that live together in symbiosis
