2 Objectives  Determine total income earned from a combination of regular wages and tips.  Use the total number of items produced and the piece rate to estimate and calculate wages.

3 Recall  To calculate a worker’s total income with tips: Calculate the regular wages (hourly rate x hours) Add the amount of tips earned to the regular wages  To calculate piecework pay: Multiply the number of items times the pay for each item

4 Tips  You work at a local burger joint and make $3.00 an hour waitressing. You work 7 hours and make $125.25 in tips. What did you make total during your 7 hour shift?

5 Tips - Solution  You work at a local burger joint and make $3.00 an hour waitressing. You work 7 hours and make $125.25 in tips. What did you make total during your 7 hour shift? $3.00 x 7 hours = $21.00 $21.00 + $125.25 = $146.25

6 Piece Rate Pay  You make $0.63 for every envelope you stuff at your new job. On your first day you stuff 450 envelopes. How much did you make on your first day?
