3. About Ms. Nelson This is my 13th year teaching. I grew up in Lanett, AL. I have a wonderful husband of 41 years (Steve) and 2 beautiful daughters, April and Tanya. I have 5 wonderful grandchildren, Austin, Barrett, Jeni, Brooklyn, and Caleigh I have a Bachelors of Science degree in Elementary Education (K-6) and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instructional Technology. I love teaching, cooking, crafts and spending time with family (especially my grandchildren) and friends. I am looking forward to a WONDERFUL year!

4. What to expect this year as we begin our year together:

5. School begins August 10 th. *Car riders unload in the a.m. @ 7:20 *Tardy bell rings at 7:35 a.m. *Afternoon buses load @ 2:35 *Afternoon car riders load @ 2:35

6. Arriving and Departing School Page 5 in the Coosada Handbook * The first week of school, children will be allowed to enter early (7:00 a.m.) * After the first week, children will be allowed to enter the building at 7:30.

7. Tardies ( Page 7 in the Coosada Handbook ) * Only excused tardies permits work to be made up. * 7 th unexcused tardy- parent notified by letter and conference 10 th unexcused tardy – parent conference and one day of detention 15 th unexcused tardy – truancy conference and 2 days detention 20 th unexcused tardy – Three days detention (check-ins and check-outs are both considered tardies in our system)

9. 5 digit lunch number For those children who had money left in their account at the end of the previous school year, their money will roll over to their new account. Send money on Monday for the week, if possible. 11. Snack Please make sure your child has snack or money for snack each day. Snack money can only be sent daily. Please send cash only and the exact amount Snack ----- $.75 Juice ------ $.75

12. Transportation Procedures Check CES handbook for car rider procedures. Please make sure I always know how your child gets home. If there are any changes please send a note to school or call the office before 2:00 p.m. Make sure you fill out the transportation form before you leave.

13. Grading Students will receive grades on their report cards for the following subjects: –Reading (numerical grade) –Math (numerical grade) –Social Science (letter grade) –Physical Education (letter grade) Graded work will be sent home each Thursday in a maroon folder. Please sign and date the front of the folder and send all work back in folder.

14. Mrs. Nelson loves good behavior! Inside the FISH notebook there will be a Conduct/Behavior card. Your child will receive a happy face,  straight face or a  sad face. Please initial this only if your child gets a  or . CES passes out Gotchas. A Gotcha is given when your child is caught making a good choice. If your child is caught making a bad choice they will be given a MBI (Minor Behavior Incident).

15. Music and Library every other week. Counseling group every other week. Please make sure that your child has tennis shoes for PE.

16. Please give any medicine that is to be taken at school to the nurse in the office. Please do spelling homework, math homework, blue AR folders and read the reading passage every night! Promotion and retention will be discussed on September 23 rd at Parent Conference Day.
