2 Alamo Floor Plan in 1836

3 13 Days of the Siege of the Alamo
Day 10, Thurs., March 3, 1836 James Bonham returned from Goliad to report that Col. Fannin was not coming to the Alamo’s aid. Day 11, Wed., March 4,1836 Mexican cannonading started early and continued all day. Day 12, Thurs., March 5, 1836 According to a popular legend, Col. Travis drew a line on the ground with his sword and then asked those willing to stay and fight to cross over and join him. The Mexican bombardment ended at 10:00 pm.

4 Notes It is of interest that Santa Anna’s decision to engage the rebels at the Alamo was not supported by many of his junior officers. “We should have attacked the enemy at the heart instead of weakening ourselves by going to Bexar, a garrison without political or military importance. This was a unanimous opinion and the commander-in-chief heard it.”---Jose Enrique de la Pena
