2 What is it composed of? Jupiter is composed of hydrogen, helium, water, nitrogen, and other gases.

3 What are its physical features? Jupiter has a tapestry of beautiful colors and atmospheric features. It also has stripes, dark belts, and light zones. Jupiter also has a famous spot on its surface known as The Great Red Spot. Jupiter’s surface is covered in clouds. Therefore you cannot see what is inside the planet or on the actual surface.

4 What are the temperatures of Jupiter? The average temperature above Jupiter’s clouds is -235 degrees Fahrenheit. The temperature below the clouds is actually 6000 degrees Fahrenheit.

5 What explorations have there been? 1610- Galileo finds satellites of Jupiter 1973- Pioneer 10- first spacecraft to reach Jupiter 1991- first flyby 1995- Jupiter probe releases (July 15) spacecraft arrival at Jupiter (December 7) 2003- impact into Jupiter (September 21) The giant colorful planet holds clues to help us understand how the sun and planets formed more than 4.5 billion years ago.

6 How Jupiter got its name? Jupiter was actually the god of thunder and the sky. The name may have been picked up because of all the clouds and storms that show Jupiter’s violent weather.
