Objectives Gain A Historical Perspective on the FFA. Why is the FFA Taught? Why is Agriculture in Schools?.

1917: –Smith-Hughes Act establishes vocational agriculture courses 1920: –Henry Groseclose, from Blacksburg VA, organizes the Future Farmers of Virginia for boys.

1928: –Future Farmers of America was organized in Kansas City, Missouri

1930: –The FFA Creed and colors were adopted. Corn gold and National Blue. National BlueCorn Gold RGB Color Code #000099 RGB Color Code# FFCC00

1933: –Official dress is adopted –The same jackets are worn today

1947: –Members vote to start their own supply service 1948 –National FFA supply service starts.

PL-81-740 1950: –Public Law 81-740 passes –Gives the FFA a federal Charter. –FFA becomes an co-curricular part of Ag classes.

1959: –The FFA center is established in Alexandria Va. on the land that was once part of Washington ’ s estate.

1965: –The New Farmers of America (NFA), the organization for African American Ag students, merges with the FFA 1969: –Girls where admitted to the FFA –Now they make up 1/3 rd of the membership.

1971: –National FFA Alumni Association is founded Gives former students the chance to get involved with the FFA.

1988: –The “ Future Farmers of America ” is changed to the “ National FFA Organization ” 1991: –Virgin Islands and Guam are granted association charters.

1999 National Convention was moved to Louisville, Kentucky from Kansas City MO.

2006 National FFA Convention moves to Indianapolis Ind.
