4 PAGE ONE RESOURCES Tutoring: 2 30-minute sessions/day (drop-in only) Computers: 42 Printer ($.03/page  cheapest place on campus!) Language learning software (Headsets for listening/speaking software):  Live Action English  American Speech Sounds  Pronunciation Power  Focus on Grammar Talk Time: 1-hour conversation group for nonnative speakers

5 STAFFING AT PAGE ONE ~30 tutors (320 staffing hours/week) Paid (part-time employees) Wide range of skill sets and backgrounds, including current and former Seattle Colleges instructors  Journalists  Copy Editors  ESL instructors  English instructors  Playwrights

6 STAFF TRAINING Tutors are expected to be able to address most student needs at Page One.   Responsible for ongoing training and learning (5 hours/quarter professional development) Once per quarter: all staff training Throughout the quarter: grammar workshops, writing norming workshops, all-tutor meetings to discuss areas of concern

7 WHAT PAGE ONE TUTORS DO Instructor & course support Help students identify and learn to self-correct problem areas on assignments Work with students on specific Page One assignments from instructors Conversation practice

8 WHAT PAGE ONE TUTORS DON’T DO Proofread or line edit Write on students’ paper Guarantee a good grade Sit at computer with student (unless Canvas-related)

9 STUDENT EXPECTATIONS Academic honesty Attempt assignment before meeting with tutor Bring materials to Page One Have a specific question for tutor  “I want help with my paper.”  NO  “I want help with my essay organization.”  YES
