Screening Review of publicly available maps Global data on carbon, biodiversity and other values Identification of protected areas and broad zones of high and low risk Landscape- level assessment National/Regional consultation Consultation with relevant institutions and experts Identification of important features not identified in global maps Site selection Site level mapping Detailed site-level assessment & planning Consultation with local people and field-based data collection Delineation, and management plan for no-go areas Identification of appropriate areas for potential development Responsible management Implementation of responsible land management Development of appropriate areas, involving stakeholders in decision making On-going monitoring of impacts and adaptive management Compliance with international best practice

What next NOW (i.e. before October) - COMMUNICATION –Refinement of discussion paper after this workshop, with example tools/cases –Outreach to other organisations/processes –Common agreement and statement(?!) to promote this common framework Over next year - CONTENT –Further demonstration of how this can work, based on existing case studies –Development of robust, credible process with guidance on tools, guidance on scale, stakeholder consultation, etc. Inclusion/recognition within relevant initiatives
