Being an Author SPaG SATs

What does SPaG mean in year 2? Spelling Punctuation Grammar Break words into phonemes for spelling, spelling many correctly. Learn new ways of spelling phonemes for which one or more spellings are already known. Use suffixes to form and spell longer words, - e.g. nouns including -ment, -ness, -er. Use expanded noun phrases to describe and specify (e.g. the blue butterfly). Use four types of sentence appropriately (statement, question, command, exclamation). Use present and past tense correctly and consistently. Use some connectives to subordinate (when, if, that, because). Use commas to separate items in a list. Use appropriate sentence punctuation (capitals !?,).

Key Stage 1 SATs “The SATs are designed to assess grammar, punctuation, language strategies, handwriting and spelling.” Language strategies relate to words and word building, such as the use of prefixes and suffixes. The SPaG test is divided into 2 sections. Paper 1 – Spelling Paper 2 – Punctuation and Grammar
