Unit Summary At the end of this lesson, the students will be able to recognize predictable events in nature and understand the sequence of the life cycles of the butterfly and frog. Their knowledge of these areas will be observed in writings and drawings in their daily journals and in their finished project of an individual poster and a group PowerPoint.

Curriculum-Framing Questions Essential Question How do living things change as they grow? Students will answer the question and revisit and revise their response repeatedly throughout the unit.

Curriculum-Framing Questions Unit Questions What are the stages of life? Would you rather be a caterpillar or a butterfly? Why? Would you rather be a tadpole or a frog? Why? Students will answer the questions through class discussion and in their writing journals.

Curriculum-Framing Questions Content Questions Do all babies resemble their parents? Do humans have metamorphosis during their life cycle? What stages do all living things go through? What are the stages of the frog's life cycle? What is the frog called after it hatches? Which of the frogs’ legs develop first, the front or back? What must develop before the frog can breathe air? What two parts of the tadpole disappear as it develops into a frog? What are the four stages of the butterfly’s life cycle? What is “metamorphosis”?
