1 Dissolving How could you make the jelly dissolve faster?

2 Dissolving Dissolving can be made to occur faster by:
Breaking the s _ _ _ _ _ _ up into smaller lumps (this increases the s _ _ _ _ _ _ _ a _ _ _) Increasing the temperature of the s _ _ _ _ _ _. S _ _ _ _ _ _ _ the mixture.

3 Practical: Dissolving at different temperatures
Aim: to see how much of a solute (copper sulphate) can dissolve in a solvent (water) at different temperatures What is our independent variable? What is out dependent variable?

4 Table drawing:

5 Practical Conclusion? Pattern – ‘er’ words
10ml water at different temperatures How many spatulas of copper sulphate can fully dissolve? Start off with the coolest and get hotter. Don’t throw your last one away!! Conclusion? Pattern – ‘er’ words

6 Dissolving at different temperatures
If the temperature of the solvent is increased the amount of solute that will dissolve in the solvent will also increase. Saturated solution - a solution in which no more of a given solute will dissolve at that temperature.

7 What will happen if we leave the solution to cool?
Cooling of a hot saturated solution will result in recrystallisation because at the lower temperature not all of the solute can be dissolved.
