3 Laws Rules made by the local, state or national government Examples: traffic signals

4 Consequences What happens when you break a rule or law Example: go to jail

5 Government A group of elected citizens who solve problems and make laws for a community

6 Services Work that someone does for someone else

7 Legislative The branch of government that makes new laws Senators and Representatives

8 Executive The branch of government, led by a mayor, governor, or President, that sees that the laws are obeyed.

9 Judicial The branch of government that decides whether laws are fair and whether they have been fairly carried out.

10 Citizen A person who lives in and belongs to a community

11 Citizenship Status given to a legal member of the country. It involves rights, duties and privileges

12 Taxes The money the government collects from citizens to pay for the services they need.

13 Court The building, hall, or room in which such cases are heard and determined

14 Judge A person from the community who is chosen to work as a leader in the courts

15 Vote A choice that gets counted

16 Elect To vote for, or choose, a leader

17 Ballot A list of choices in an election
