BS in Elementary Education from Mississippi State University. 6 years experience teaching grades K, 1 st, and 3 rd in Mississippi and Alabama. My husband, Mike, and I have 3 daughters: Ashley (11), Emily (10), and Hannah (8).

Drop off at the gym. I will pick the children up in the gym at 7:45. We will begin our day immediately. The tardy bell rings at 7:55.

To help students achieve their potential and become independent thinkers. To provide a supportive and fun classroom environment. To help your child make new friends and discover new interests.

We have a classroom economy. Each student will earn money based on behavior during the day. They can use the money to buy items at the classroom store. Each student will be asked to follow the classroom rules. If the behavior continues after a warning, he/she will move their frog. I will record the behavior grade (G,S,N,U) in the agenda. Please sign the agenda nightly!

We will be using a “hands on” manipulative program-Scott Foresman. Timed practice tests will administered daily. Please practice math facts at home! Math homework will be assigned Monday- Thursday. Please review your child’s homework.

We will use the Scott Foresman reading text along with ARI reading materials. Reading techniques focus on phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Children will be involved with literature on their instructional reading level. Vocabulary and spelling words will be sent home weekly. Please encourage your child to read 15 minutes every night!

Spelling Spelling words will come from our story each week. We will have a pre-test on Monday. Those who make a 100 on the pretest are exempt from spelling homework for the week. Spelling words will be on our class newsletter each week. 10:30-11:00

We will incorporate writing with Language Arts. Grading will based on tests, daily work, and writing assignments. We will publish one piece each month.

The lunch room is in need of parent or grandparent volunteers to help with serving food and wiping tables. Student lunch $1.75 Milk $0.35

Grades will come from assessments, occasional tests, science journals, and projects. We will send home study guides for tests. Please review these with your child.

P.E. P.E. will be with Coach Hudson every day. Please make sure your child wears comfortable shoes every day. 12:50-1:30

Music is every other week with Mrs. Whatley. Art is every other week with Mrs. Humphrey. Tech Lab is every week with Mrs. Simms. Library is every week with Mrs. Kiki.

This will also be our snack time. You may send a snack from home, or you may purchase a snack for $0.60 at school. If you would like to send a birthday snack, please send it in the morning with your child.

Please send a note if your child is going home a different way. In car line, please make a place for your child on the driver’s side of the car if possible. Other cars come through quickly.

The AR program offers students an opportunity to read stories from texts based on their individual reading levels which will be determined by the STAR Reading Evaluations. The STAR testing is done twice a year. AR points are earned by passing a comprehension test after the book is read. In order to receive points, 85% or above must be scored on comprehension. Please encourage your child to read an AR book nightly.

Spelling homework Monday-Thursday is due on Friday. Speller’s choice will stay in the binder and I will check it on Friday. Most nights, math homework will be given.

Trips will be planned in advance. All fees should be paid before the due date accompanied by the parent permission slip. School t-shirts are worn on all field trips.

Pond Pal of the Week Monday: Sharing Sack – Please help your child gather three items to share with classmates. Try to encourage items that hold meaning – not just toys. Tuesday: Favorite Book – Please allow your child to bring a favorite book to read to the class. Wednesday: Parent Letter – Parents, you will write a letter to the class telling us how special your child is to you. Send the letter in a sealed envelope and I will read the letter to the class. Some ideas include writing a funny or serious poem about your child, describe special or silly stories about your child, tell us some neat things we may not know about your child, or send some crazy pictures to share. Thursday: Lunch – If possible, join your child in the cafeteria on this day to share a special lunch. You may ask a favorite relative to be your child’s lunch buddy. Friday: Froggy Friends – Your child will presented with a friendship book created by his or her classmates. *The events planned for Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday can be swapped to accommodate your personal schedule.

Absences/Tardies Trips (limit 3 days per year) must be pre- approved by sending a note to or emailing Mr. Beasley. Please review the FES Handbook on tardies and absences. Please send in an excuse within three days of the absence/tardy.

If you have not paid the Opening School Expenses of $50.00, please do so tonight. This covers the costs of t- shirts, tech lab, and all in-school programs. Please make your check out to FES. We will be using Scholastic News for a reading center this year. It helps to teach students to read for comprehension. The cost is $5 per student for the year. Please make the check out to Scholastic News.
