Square number: a number that has an odd number of factors The number 9 is a square number because of its factors 1, 3 and 9 The number 4 is a square number because of its factors 1, 2 and 4 A number times itself always equals a square number What is a square number?

We can get 49 by multiplying the whole number 7 by 7 (by itself) We write 7 x 7 = 7 2 We say 7 squared When we multiply a number by itself, we square the number. Squaring and taking the square are inverse functions, they undo each other 7 x 7 = 49 7 2 = 49 √49 = √7 2 =7 Squaring and Taking the Square Root
