Square Chart O On your graph paper, create a horizontal table with 2 rows and 26 columns O Label the rows “side” and “area” O Then trace one box just under the left-hand side of the table O Fill the side length and area for the square you traced onto the chart

Square Chart O Draw a new square around the first one that has a side length of 2 units O Fill this square’s side length and area onto the chart O Continue this process, adding one unit each time and drawing a square until you have filled out your whole table

O A square root is the inverse of squaring a number (or taking it to the second power) O It is related to the area of squares What is a square root?

Area of Squares O A square is special rectangle in which all sides are equal O A = b · h O but because base and height are equal O A of square = s · s or A = s²

Finding the Side of a Square O A square root is like being given the area of a square and finding the side length O A square with an area of 36 would have a side length of O6O6 O A square with an area of 81 would have a side length of O9O9

Notes – Calculating Square Roots O A square root is the inverse of squaring a number (to the second power) O You need to figure out what number times itself will give you the amount underneath the square root symbol
