PROTOCOLS FOR INSTRUCTIONS: SET-UP JANUARY 13, 2016 (DAY #1) S 1.You should have the following items on your desk. a.Lesson 20-2 Practice, P. 276 #’s 10-14 b.Calculator c.Pencil & Pen 2.Tear out Activity #21: Dilations pages 279–290 from your Springboard Book. 3.Take the Challenge! 4.Sit quietly and wait for teacher instructions E Take the Challenge! How do you describe the properties of dilations? T READY TO LEARN TIME: 2:47 PM Sit and organize materials. Enter the classroom quietly, voice level = 0. Get your Springboard Book from the shelf and take a sheet. Examine and follow directions:

Answer: BC/FG = 24/10 = 2.4/1 Answer: The ratio tells me that EF is 2.4 times shorter in length than AB Answer: The length of EF is 20 ft. Answer: The perimeter is 3 times as large and the area is 9 times as large. Answer: Multiply each side length by the same factor, a number between 0 and 1. Answer: They are both correct. Dante is comparing the areas using a ratio of smaller circles to larger circles, while Louisa is comparing the areas using a ratio of larger circles to smaller circles.

Learning Targets: Determine the effect of the value of the scale factor on a dilation. Explore how the scale factor affects two-dimensional figures on a coordinate plane. TEK(S): I can use algebraic representations to represent dilations on a coordinate plane. (8.3C) I know which transformations remain congruent and which do not. (8.10B) I can model the effect on linear and area measurements of dilated 2-D shapes. (8.10D)

Page 288 #’s 3–5 Answer: The ratio of side lengths of dilated figures is equal to the scale factor of dilation Answer: Reduction, because the scale factor, 0.12 is less than 1. Answer: There will not be any changes. The point will remain (0, 0).

LESSON 21-1 (QUIZ): 1/12/2016 How long do we have to complete the exam? 10 minutes What do I do? You will need to complete page 291, Dilations – Alice’s Adventure in Shrinking and Growing problems #’s 2-6 (ALL). Use a separate sheet of notebook paper to show your work. To receive full credit ALL mathematical process should be shown. What do I do when I finish the exam? Begin working you your homework; Lesson 21-1 Practice, P. 285 #’s 8-11 TEK(S): I know that ratios of corresponding sides of similar shapes are proportional. (8.3A) I know that dilations produce similar figures. (8.3A) I can identify the similarities and differences between a shape and its dilation on a coordinate plane. (8.3B) I know the properties of transformations. (8.10A) I can represent transformations algebraically for the coordinate plane. (8.10C) I can model the effect on linear and area measurements of dilated 2-D shapes. (8.10D)
