Carolina Activity A: Leaf Pigment Chromatography

2 Purpose To identify whether a green leaf is composed of one pigment or several. Also, to conduct a paper chromatography lab.

3 Materials Chromatography Jar (with solvent) Chromatography Paper
Spinach Leaf Coin Stapler Ruler

4 Procedure Follow the lab instructions.
The solvent in the jar is very potent, keep capped and open and close quickly. Roll the coin pressing firmly but not too hard. The bands may be difficult to see.

5 Feedback Use Maple leaf (red and sugar) or Radicchio
Use several different species and compare Look at Fall and Spring leaeves
