Series and Parallel Circuits

Series Circuits ► Are the simplest type of circuits. ► Series circuits – all the components (lamps, cells, switches, etc.) are connected together on one path.

Series Circuits ► For example, here is a series circuit with a cell and a lamp:

Series Circuits ► A series circuit with a cell and two lamps:

Series Circuits ► Series circuits have two disadvantages: 1.If one component stops working, then all the components don’t work. Video – start at 25seconds Video – start at 25seconds 2.The more components in the circuit, the greater the resistance. ► Resistors hinders the flow of an electric current

Parallel Circuits ► a circuit with two or more paths for the electrons to flow through. ► It is like two or more series circuits connected to the same energy source.

Parallel Circuits ► A parallel circuit connecting two lamps and a cell.

Parallel Circuits ► A parallel circuit connecting three lamps and a cell.

Parallel Circuits ► Parallel circuits have two advantages: 1.If one load shuts off the other load(s) will still stay on. 2.More components without the need for more voltage.
