Words with long vowel “a” can be spelled in a variety of ways. EXAMPLES: 1.- a_e: cakemade 2.- ai:pailpaint 3.- ay: haystay Listen carefully. Long vowels always say their own names. Long vowel “a” sounds like this “a”.

Read and listen carefully to the following words. They all have the sound of long vowel “a”. Repeat them after me (loudly and slowly). Ready? ray paint bake make today gray spray okay holiday stay

It sounds like this: “a” as in cat, mad, ranch. Let´s practice. Get a pen and a piece of paper. Write numbers 1 to 10 in one column. Listen to the words, repeat them and on the piece of paper, write “s” for short or “l” for long. Next, let´s review the short sound of “a”. Do you remember what short “a” sounds like?
