Revision Games To aid low ability students Revision Games

A range of interactive ways to aid low ability students with revision.

Basketball Pupils roll a dice to answer a question. Each pupils has a counter in the shape of a basketball. If they land on a shoot square they get a shot at the basket. If they land on a foul square they miss a turn.

Bingo Pupils have a bingo card and laser cut rectangles to cover if their key word comes up. Task can be differentiated. Can give pupils keywords and ask them to find them on their sheet. For more challenge – read out word definitions and see if they can match them to the word. Rules are the same as Bingo.

What’s in the bag? Pupils put their hand in the bag and pick an object. They then have to explain on a bright coloured card how the product fits in with revision topics.

Make It, Draw It, Mime It. Make It – model the keyword or definition in Plasticine. Draw it – draw the keyword or definition on the whiteboard. Mime It - Mime out the keyword or definition.

Penalty Shoot Out Based on a penalty shoot out in football. There are 2 teams. Pupils take it in turns to answer a question. If they answer the question correctly they get a shot on goal. The winner is the first team to score 5 penalties.

Snap Pupils deal out Snap cards. Each card has a picture and a keyword. Pupils play snap. When a snap occurs pupils have to explain why the 2 cards are a snap. E.g. HDTV (snap) High Definition TV. HDTV is the abbreviation. E.g. Copper (snap) Tin. Both are metals.

Assessment for Learning Simple ideas for assessing how pupils feel about their revision.

Washing Line T-shirt = areas pupils are confident with. Shorts = areas pupils need help with. Pupils can use the washing line to indicate how they feel regarding revision topics.

Emoticons Key topics for revision are written on the white board. Pupils draw the relevant emoticon for how confident they are about that topic.

Tree to Success Pupils colour in the person they feel they are on the tree and put their initials at the side. Use at the end of a revision session to see how they feel about a topic. The further up the tree they are the more confident they feel.
