2. Chapters 1-4  Ch. 1 – Describe Brian ’ s feelings throughout the chapter and how they change.  Ch. 2 – Describe a time when you felt things were hopeless. How did your reactions compare with Brian ’ s?  Ch. 3 - What is the mood the author is trying to create? How does he accomplish this.  Ch. 4 – Describe the setting in which Brian finds himself.

3. Chapters 5-8  Ch. 5 & 6 – No questions  Ch. 7 - Summarize chapter 2-3 sentences. Remember to include key characters, events and problem / solutions.  Ch. 8 – Read pages 76-77 and then predict what was in his shelter with him. While reading p. 78, what makes you change your prediction?

4. Chapters 9-12  Ch. 9 – How is fire like a friend to Brian?  Ch. 10 – What does it mean to be rich?  Ch. 11 – What ’ s the most beautiful place you ’ ve ever seen?  Ch. 12 – How does the author use language to help the reader feel what Brian is feeling?

5. Chapters 13-17  Ch. 13 – What ’ s the difference between the “ old hope ” and the new “ tough hope ” ?  Ch. 14 – What ’ s the theme of Ch. 14 ?  Ch. 15 – Summarize the events in this chapter  Ch. 16 – How ’ s Brian ’ s condition the same as when he first crashed & how ’ s it different? ( p. 158)  Ch. 17 – Contrast the mood of chapters 16 & 17.
