Culture and Politics Mixing cultures and politics can result in trading culture traits, known as cultural blending or conflict. The Columbian Exchange provided ways to exchange ideas. Between 1900 and 1950, secular political parties in Europe caused conflict by spreading propaganda, making alliances, and mistreating ethnic groups. Nationalism caused the conflicts to become wars. Now, there is political peace in Europe with the European Union. Tompkins
