What is AVID? Advancement via Individual Determination ●Helps you master skills essential to high school and college success such as time management, organization, speaking and writing skills. ●Guides you through planning and implementing a four-year plan that will help you meet your college and career goals. ●Assists you in completing the college entrance requirements (A-G). ●Creates a family that will support your academic and social needs. ●Provides extra in class tutorial support for students in college prep, honors and advanced placement classes. ●Directs you through the PSAT/SAT/ACT, college application and college scholarship processes.

Who is a good candidate for AVID? A student who... ●…has average to high test scores ●…has 2.0-3.5 GPA ●…has potential to succeed in college prep, honors and advanced placement classes with support ●…has the desire and determination to be successful in high school and beyond ●…will be the first in his or her family to attend college ●…belongs to a group that is historically underserved in 4-year colleges ●…has special circumstances

How do you get into AVID? Application process: ●February 18, 2016 AVID Team presentation in history classes at ESMS (during school) ●March 9, 2016 ESMS AVID Parent and student night at ESHS Little Theater/PAC 6pm ●March 15, 2016 Applications are due online or in box in the ESMS office ●March 22-23, 2016 Interviews for AVID held at ESMS Conference room during school (you will get a slip to call you out of class for 10 minutes during the school day at ESMS) ●April 4, 2016 Letters are sent home to all students who interviewed for acceptance or waitlisted (students will sign when they pick up their letter from ESMS office) ●April 15, 2016 Contracts are due if students accept AVID position to box in ESMS office
