{ Unit 13 Experimental Design

 How are scientific experiments designed? Warm Up

 RESEARCH DAY  With your group open the project and begin research  By the end of the day you should have:  List of material  People assigned to bring material  Day 1 log completed  Pages 2 and 3 complete  Drawings at least started  AND you must have Mrs. Evans check this Mouse Trap Car

 Why are scientific experiments important?  Turn in your Warm Up Log Warm Up

 BUILDING DAY  By the end of the day you should have:  Day 3 log completed  Building in Progress  Some of you should be able to test run by the end of the day  AND you must have Mrs. Evans check this Mouse Trap Car

 In your opinion what is the most important step of an experiment and why? Warm Up

 Why is the water cycle important? Warm Up

 In your Spiral write and answer these questions  How are scientific experiments designed?  There needs to be a process so that any scientist could repeat the experiment. Research is often involved so that the experiment has a purpose and answers a question or problem.  Why are the constant variables so important?  If the constants remain the same for all trials of the experiment, then this is one way that we know that the change we are observing is the result of the independent variable. Introducing Scientific Procedures and Research

 How is the independent variable different from the other variables?  The independent variable (also called the manipulated variable) is the variable that has been purposely changed. It will be the cause of the change that is measured. The dependent variable (or responding variable) is the variable that will be measured after the experiment is set up. It will be the effect of the action. The control does not contain the independent variable Introducing Scientific Procedures and Research

 List the materials you think you will need for your mouse trap car. Warm Up

 What is one thing you learned from your Mouse Trap Car Project?  Turn in last weeks warm up by the sink  Turn in your Mouse Trap  Car Lab Report Warm Up

 Name three things you learned about yourself yesterday. Warm Up

 Why did the mass of the gum decrease as you chewed it? Warm Up

 Which did you prefer, the Z-yro or the Frisbee? Why? Warm Up
