1 Tuesday January 11, 2011 Today’s Objective: I will determine meanings of words by identifying prefixes and suffixes on a worksheet and writing my own paragraph using prefixes and suffixes. 2 Warm Up Find the prefix and suffix in the following sentence:.  Before he was deported, the old man was happily living in New York City.

3 Identify the Prefixes and Suffixes Prefix is added to the beginning of a word to form a new word.  Pre – “coming before” + fix ‘to fasten = prefix Suffix is added to the end of a word to form a new word and tends to determine a words part of speech.  Read (verb) + able = readable (adjective)  Home (noun) + warm = homeward (adverb)

6 Finding Prefixes and Suffixes Read the paragraph, underline the prefixes and suffixes. Then write your own paragraph using 5 prefixes and 5 suffixes.
