Addition and Subtraction – objectives for the year add and subtract numbers mentally, including: three-digit number and ones, three-digit number and tens, three- digit number and hundreds add and subtract numbers with up to three digits, using formal written methods of columnar addition and subtraction solve problems, including missing number problems, using number facts, place value, and more complex addition and subtraction.
4
add and subtract numbers with up to three digits, using formal written methods of columnar addition and subtraction – the column method is new in Year 3.

add and subtract numbers with up to three digits, using formal written methods of columnar addition and subtraction

Multiplication and division- objectives for the year recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 3, 4 and 8 multiplication tables calculate mathematical statements for multiplication and division using the multiplication tables that they know, including for two-digit numbers times one-digit numbers, using mental and progressing to formal written methods solve problems, including missing number problems, involving multiplication and division.
9
calculate mathematical statements for multiplication and division using the multiplication tables that they know, including for two-digit numbers times one-digit numbers, using mental and progressing to formal written methods – first time these methods are introduced.

322 ÷7 (Thinking: How many 7s are in 322?) 3 2 2 - 7 0 (10 x 7) (Thinking: what the largest multiple of 7 I know....? 10 lots of 7 is 70!) 2 5 2 - 7 0 (10 x 7) 1 8 2 - 7 0 (10 x 7) 1 1 2 - 7 0 (10 x 7) 4 2 - 4 2 (6 x 7) (Thinking: How many lots of 7 are left to make 42? 6 lots of 7!) (Thinking: How many lots of 7 altogether made 322? 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 6 = 46 lots of 7) 322 ÷ 7 = 46

This is the children putting their Maths knowledge into action Using and applying involves pupils in solving problems, explaining their methods and results, and using their Mathematics, particularly to reason (mainly through questions) Using and applying is used in all aspects of the Maths curriculum It is where pupils use their knowledge and understanding of mathematics to solve problems.
14
Let’s have a go at some Using and Applying so you can put into practice what you have learnt here Puzzles and Problems – Susie the Snake, Three Monkeys Recipe Questioning by the teacher
15
Reasons behind the removal of levels: ◦ Level driven curriculum ◦ Used to much ◦ Negative impact on teaching Problems with levels ◦ Are they fair? ◦ Impact on teaching and learning ◦ Not regular enough Benefits of assessment without levels ◦ Clarity for pupil and parents ◦ Support for pupils
16
Purpose of day to day assessment for parents: ◦ Broad picture of where their child’s strengths and weaknesses lie and what they need to improve ◦ Collins objectives ◦ Teachers will assess every objective ◦ Informs about the achievement, progress and wider outcomes of their child across a period of time, not just a one day SNAPSHOT! You will now ONLY receive narrative comments and an effort grade in the report
