T HINGS TO C ONSIDER Half of the world’s hospital beds are filled with people suffering from water related illnesses. The average person in a developing country uses 2.64 gallons of water a day. The average person in the United States uses between 100-175 gallons of water everyday.

W HAT IS THE W ORLD W ATER C RISIS ? The World Water Crisis is the lack of access to safe drinking water. Water is scarce in some areas and in other areas it is taken for granted and wasted.

W HAT ISSUES DO PEOPLE FACE BECAUSE OF THE W ORLD W ATER C RISIS ? In just one day, more than 200 million hours of women’s time around the world is consumed for collecting water for domestic use for the most basic human needs… even this water is polluted. Diarrhea remains the second leading cause of death among children under five years old.

The lack of clean water causes many diseases such as Guinea Worm Disease which is caused by dirty the worm can grow to be 3 feet long.

A QUIFER D EPLETION An aquifer is water-saturated geological layer that easily releases water to wells or springs for use as a water supply. Aquifers are natural resources that can be accessed by drilling a well and them pumping the water to the surface. Excessive pumping can cause land subsidence.
