5 What is Microsoft SharePoint? SharePoint is an enterprise content and document management platform. It can be used as a secure place to store, organize, share and access information. It can be used to organize teams or automate business processes.

6 Services Send and receive e-mail; manage users and groups Exchange and Active Directory integration Allows for content discovery, not just SharePoint content Search (FAST) and Business Connectivity Services (BCS) Web based Excel, Word, PowerPoint and OneNote Office Web Apps Allows for InfoPath forms to be hosted and served in a web browser InfoPath Form Services Advanced business intelligence capabilities Power BI Microsoft Project Server, Microsoft Dynamics CRM Platform host

7 Why are people still excited about this product?  There are plenty of levers to pull and hooks to tap into for extending.  Client side object model (CSOM)  Javascript object model (JSOM)  Great services already exist. The ground work has already been done for me.  I can build scalable, enterprise solutions for a fraction of the time and cost of starting from scratch.

8 What is a SharePoint farm?  Database Server  Everything is stored here  Application Server  Runs middleware services  Web Front End Server  Faces and interacts with web browser client

9 What are my deployment options? On Premise Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) SharePoint Online (SaaS/PaaS) Create physical or virtual machines on site in your data center Create virtual machines in a hosted environment, like Azure or AWS. Subscribe as part of an Office 365 tenant.

10 What types of people do I need to support my SharePoint platform?  SharePoint Administrator  Has the knowledge to configure the backend servers and services  SharePoint Professional/Evangelist  Has training in how sites and content is created and can get the most of out-of- the-box functionality  SharePoint Developer  Has the knowledge to add advanced functionality to the platform
