Geometry: Study of shapes Logic Measurements
4
Course Descriptions: A basic goal of Geometry is to expand the understanding of mathematical concepts and to improve logical thinking skills. Students will be presented with concepts, strategies and guidance in order to improve on their own decision making ability. These concepts will be reinforced through exercises in order to gain mastery and provoke critical thinking.
5
This is not your typical math course! It is probably going to be the first time you study for math. There is a ton of vocabulary to learn as well!
6
Prerequisites: A passing grade in Algebra I
7
Text(s): Geometry: McDougal Littell
8
Supplementary Materials: Scientific calculator TI-30X IIS (Texas Instruments) Can’t use on tests until second half, but ok on hw & quizzes
9
Supplementary Materials: Geometry tool kit – protractor, compass, ruler (available at any office supply store or Target) (Required by Tuesday, June 16th)
10
Classroom Rules/Behavioral Expectations: Respect yourself, others and the teacher Do not disrupt the learning process of others
11
Be prepared for each class (BRING necessary materials) Textbook Pencil and paper Calculator, protractor, compass, and straightedge Classroom Rules/Behavioral Expectations:
12
Be on time. No eating or drinking in the classroom, except water Late assignments will not be accepted, one will randomly be collected daily
13
IF YOU ARE ABSENT It is your responsibility to get the notes and make-up work complete before test day If you are absent on test day, you must take the test BEFORE the day of the next chapter test. Homework and Tests will receive no credit if the absence is unexcused (not cleared with the office) Classroom Rules/Behavioral Expectations:
14
Course Outline/Topics Covered: Course objectives encompass GUHSD mathematics standards An overview of Geometry Reasoning Lines in a plane Congruent triangles and properties of triangles Polygons Transformations Similarity Right triangles Circles Planar measurements Space measurements
15
Grading and Assessment Policy: 100% - 90%=A 89% - 80%=B 79% - 73%=C 72% - 68%=C- 67%= D Less than 67%=F
16
Breakdown of Grading Categories 45% =Test 5%=Daily Quizzes 30%= Assignments/Projects 20%=Final Exam
17
Classroom Rules/Behavioral Expectations: I look forward to working with you over the summer. Please keep in mind it is a privilege to take summer school. If you receive two referrals, you will automatically be dropped from the class. Each late counts as one point and each absence counts as two points. If you go over 5 points, you will be dropped from the class and receive no credit.

Things about me: I have a bachelors in Math and a masters in Education I work a lot, and expect you to as well I love music I teach AP Statistics & Geometry
24
Things about the Classroom: I will be using PowerPoints almost daily Calendar and agenda are in the back Grade sheets will be sent home after each test If you get an ‘A’ on a test, your name goes up on the superstars board! There will be notes and HW daily
25
Things about the Classroom: There will be a group quiz or individual test daily There will be extra credit You will be working in groups
26
Why group work? 5% 10% 20% 30% 50% 75% 90%
27
Bathroom Rules: You cannot go for the first 15 minutes of class or during notes If someone is gone you cannot go When you come back return the pass to me
28
Things NOT to do: Your phone is not a calculator Ipods should not be used! Cheat Say “I will do this homework later” Go through my things without permission Say “I don’t want to sit here” Put your head down on your desk Not come prepared to class
