3. The ancient civilizations of Egypt, Mesopotamia, and India developed along large rivers. What rivers were important to these civilizations, why were these rivers important, and how did these rivers help the people of these civilizations survive? (Turn and talk)

4. Hundreds of years later in East Asia, another civilization emerged along the Huang He (Yellow River) in China. Thinking back to our previous units, how do you think the Chinese might utilize the Yellow River?

5. Powerful Rivers Reading Lets popcorn read!! After the reading is complete, we will compare what we have read about the Huang He and the Chang Jiang. As a class we will complete a T chart Huang HeChang Jiang

6. Independent Practice Using the T chart we have just completed, write a 5-7 sentence paragraph comparing and contrasting these two rivers.

7. Group Work “The Huang He has benefited the people of the Huang He valley. The river has also brought great misfortune”.
