1 Holiday, Religious and Occasional Designs

2 Why Learn About Holiday’s?  That’s how you make your moolah!!  During the holiday’s, many people need designs made to celebrate an important time in their life.  Your job is to help them celebrate that holiday appropriately  i.e. no orange and black arrangement on Easter (unless the customer asks for it specifically)

3 Specific Times of Year  While most holidays (religious and nonreligious) have a strong floral component to them, the following holidays are very important to the floral industry:  Christmas/ New Years  Easter  Mother’s Day  Valentine’s Day

4 Christmas

5 Easter

6 Mother’s Day

7 Valentine’s Day

8 Research Project  You are going to pick a holiday, any (real) holiday we did not discuss today, and do a research project! DUE MONDAY, MAY 4 TH  It MUST contain the following components:  Two (2) pages, single spaced, 12 or 14pt font  that’s four sides of paper  An explanation of the holiday and how it came to be  i.e. Why do we celebrate Christmas?  Explain how flowers and floral design have played a historical and modern role in this holiday  i.e. Christmas wreaths  how did they come to be & how are they used today?  THEN ( this is the most important part folks… ) explain how YOU would incorporate your holiday into a design.  Feel free to include an image to help explain
