3 A conflict is s struggle between two sides. There are several types of conflicts: Questions: Can you identify 5 different conflicts? Man vs ???

4 Foreshadowing is a type of literary device. It is a statement that HINTS at events happening later in the text. Questions: How do you know what foreshadowing looks like?

5 Allusion is a type of literary device. It is a statement aimed at referring to an event without actually saying it. Example: We hope never to have another major terrorist attack on our country.

6 Exam questions often use the word infer. Ex : What can we infer about this character? Questions: What does it mean to infer?

7 Authors use figures of speech to use the language in more interesting ways. Questions: Can you name different types of figurative language?

8 You will be asked to label examples of figurative language. Questions: How are similes and metaphors different?

9 You will be asked to label examples of figurative language. Questions: What is hyperbole? Can you give an example of hyperbole?

10 You will be asked to label examples of figurative language. Questions: What is alliteration?

11 You will be asked to label examples of figurative language. Questions: What is personification?

25 Of course, you will need to identify sentence types on the exam. Simple/ Compound/Complex/Compound-Complex Questions: What kind of sentence is this? Will you study, or will you forget?
