o have choice in reading and writing selections and through differentiated assignments and assessments. o have ownership of his/her learning through individual tasks and texts, as appropriate; collaborative opportunities for problem-solving; and developing spoken, written, and visual literacy skills. o find relevance in the curriculum through real-world experiences; multi-genre lessons/units built around big ideas and enduring understandings; understanding and appreciating diverse literatures of the world.

o deliver a standards-based English Language Arts curriculum; o situate learning in a multi-genre, thematic context with enduring understandings and essential questions; o coach and facilitate learning; o expand definitions of “text” and of “literacy” in a quickly evolving world; o value and encourage Inquiry-Based instruction model critical and higher level questioning encourage student-generated questions emphasize divergent thinking; o differentiate instruction; o provide opportunities for collaborative problem solving o give students meaningful feedback through “checks for understanding”; o use varied and appropriate authentic assessments.
