2 Chi Square distribution The chi square distribution is a very common distribution used in statistics. A chi square variable with k degrees of freedom is the sum of k independent squared standard normal variables. This is where we get the chi square name from.

3 Goodness of fit One good use of the chi square distribution is to see if an observed sample follows a hypothesized sample. The formula for that statistic is as follows: X^2 = sum of (observed- expected)^2/expected

4 Example The video below shows a very good example of a chi square test for goodness of fit.
