History of Disability RightsHistory of Disability Rights The Disabilities Rights movement was started in 1970. It was encouraged by the Civil Rights and Women’s Rights movements. People started the Disability Rights movement because people with disabilities were treated unfairly for example people with disabilities were not given respected and did not have much dignity. Public places were hard for disabled people to function in, because of technical reasons. Without Disability Rights people with disabilities would not be independent and part of society.

What Needs to Happen in the Future In our constitution it does not state the rights of disabled people, which makes the disabled movement seem as a waste of time. Disabled people are not the only people effected by their disability, families as a whole are effected by the disability. We need to add Disability Rights to our constitution and have the disabled included into our society even more.
