4 Essential Question How can Middletown’s small businesses and specialty shops survive with the huge influx of franchises and big businesses moving into Middletown? Answer: Small businesses provide better customer service and quality items.

5 Middletown Transcript Our small town paper, “The Middletown Transcript” gives us information about our communities. Opened in 1868, opened location on Main Street in 1904 They have 70, 500 subscription holders

6 Immediato’sImmediato’s is the place to go when you are feeling hungry at lunch or dinner. It took 1 week to get the business up and running and 1 year to make a profit. Great customer service and homemade food is how they compete with bigger businesses.

7 E’s on Main Street Another place to go to please your appetite. In business 5 years It took 2 years to make a profit Her top selling items are homemade soup and E’s Iced tea. The owner, Eileen Keegan, says she offers quality food, excellent customer service and a unique menu.

8 Lamar’s barbershop Lamar, owner and operator, has been in business for 19 years. He saw his first profit in 1 year. He offers a better haircut, cheaper prices, and nice hometown conversation

9 JREAM J esus R ules E verything A round M e Jream has all kinds of urban designer clothes. They do a lot of advertising, sending out flyers, cards, and have ads in the Middletown Transcript. They have been in business since Jan.2007 and has not seen a profit yet. Jreams stands for Jesus Rules Everything Around Me.

10 Witherspoon’s Witherspoon’s Pub is the oldest business in Middletown, DE. Opened in 1675 Witherspoon’s had a bad fire in the 1800’s but was restored. There is a current plan to reconstruct the restaurant and make it look like it did when it was first built.
