Fall River Public Schools Leveraging Educator Evaluation to Support ELL Initiatives & RETELL

Background 2012-2013 Trained over 100 teachers in the WIDA standards 100 Teachers trained to administer ACCESS 50 teachers enrolled in RETELL ESL and SEI teams identified incorporating WIDA into practice as a professional goal LEP student goals linked to benchmarks & unit tests

District Goals vis à vis ELLs Meet state enrollment number for cohorts 1-3 of RETELL Integrate WIDA standards into curriculum maps Create district, school, teacher and student goals based on ACCESS results

Potential District Goals ‘13-14 200 Staff members will take WIDA 101 100 Staff member will take WIDA 201 & create MPIs for ELD levels 75% of ELD 1&2’s will increase 1.5 levels by Jan ‘14 test 75% ELD 3 & 4’s will increase by 1 level All science teachers will use listening/ speaking assessments 4 times/year

Potential District Goals Goal Incorporate Wida ( World-Class Instructional Design & Assessment) Evidence Formative and summative assessments in speaking & listening for math, science and social studies

Teacher/ Student Goal Goal All students will increase the # correct in Language of Math by 30% Artifact Accountable talk stems Formative assessments in 4 domains Student work

Teacher Professional Goal Goal Incorporate WIDA Create MPIs and lessons based on common core & ELD levels Progress monitor using oral language rubrics Artifacts MPIs for all 4 domains (R,W,L,S) Student work from varying ELD levels/same content objective Teacher created formative assessments

RETELL, WIDA & The Evaluation Tool Rethinking Equity & Teaching for English Language Learners Assignments are a opportunity for growth in all 4 indicators Administrators can discuss, observe, and follow-up on certain practices See appendix a for educator evaluation indicators, RETELL & WIDA artifacts and goals
