Sherman J. Lowell, who served as National Master from 1919- 1923, rose from the ranks of this subordinate Grange, America’s first outside of Washington, DC. A-1

A-2 In 1895, Sarah Baird was elected the first Master of this, the first State Grange.

A-3 In February of 1874, this Missouri city hosted the first National Session held outside the Washington, DC area.

Among the implements, this emblem of the Third Degree speaks of peace and prosperity, and is the harbinger of joy. C-4

According to his National Grange biography, “His Grange accomplishments started in 1978 when he was named Oregon’s Outstanding Young Granger.” D-1

D-3 With her husband Harry, she was state young couple. Later, she served as National Grange Youth Director, and today is Master of the Colorado State Grange.

D-4 Having just married into a Grange family, he was a Marching Candidate during the 7th Degree at the 1967 Centennial Session in Syracuse, NY. Today, he is the High Priest of Demeter.

D-5 The same month he turned 30, National Master John Scott selected him to be National Director of Youth Activities, where he served from 1969 to 1982. He later went on to serve as State Master, and was elected National Master in 2003.

E-1 During the early 1900’s, both J.D. Ream and George Bischel each served non- consecutive terms in this office of the Nebraska State Grange.

E-2 The Nebraska Territory gained statehood the same year the National Grange was established. The State Grange was chartered during this year, which was five years later.

Citing a lack of timely news and weather sources for farmers, the Nebraska State Grange helped form the Nebraska Rural Radio Association in 1951. Deaths and serious damage to herds and crops across the state in 1948-49 was due to this type of severe winter storm. E-3
