1.Pick up handout from back 2.Pick up for you and table partner glue or tape and scissors. 3.Turn in your enzyme lab packet from last time. 4.Take out your notebook. 5.Find a free left and right page in notebook. 6.On the RIGHT side, title your notes “Cell Size”. 7.On the LEFT side of your notebook title it “What I know about cells” (Need help? Find the notes we already took on cells) 1.Now identify as many things as you know about cells as today’s bell work.

Type pd. 4 responses here.

What Ms. Henriques said you should already know about cells. The definition – “Cells are the basic unit of structure & function. They are the building blocks of ALL life”. The two types 1.Prokaryotic cells. These cells do not have compartments, a nucleus nor do they have membrane bound organelles. Only bacteria are prokaryotes All prokaryotes are unicellular
4
What you should know continued 1.Eukaryotic cells - These cells HAVE compartments, a nucleus AND they have membrane bound organelles. All eukaryotes can be unicellular or multicellular. They have organelles such as chloroplast, rough ER, smooth ER, glogi apparatus, etc. They are 2 types of eukaryotic cells. 1.Animal cell (the top picture on your colored copy) 2.Plant cell (the bottom picture on your colored copy)
5
Prokaryote? Or Eukaryote? How do you know? It is a prokaryotic cell because it doesn’t have compartments, a nucleus, nor does it have membrane bound organelles.

2 types of eukaryotic cells All eukaryotic cells have a nucleus and membrane bound organelles. A plant cell is a type of eukaryotic cell. An animal cell is the 2 nd type of eukaryotic cell. Plant cell Animal cell
12
How can you tell if it’s a Plant or Animal? It is a eukaryotic plant cell because it HAS: –Vacuole –Chloroplast –Cell wall Animal cells DO NOT HAVE those organelles. vacuole Chloroplast Cell wall Chloroplast Plant cell
13
How can you tell if it’s a Plant or Animal? How do you know? It is a eukaryotic animal cell because it DOES NOT HAVE –Vacuole –Chloroplast –Cell wall But it DOES HAVE –Lysosome –centrioles lysosome Centrioles Animal cell

Hierarchy of life Atoms Element Molecule Monomer Polymer Macromolecule Organelle Cell The cell is the building blocks of life. According to the hierarchy, cells couldn’t exists without the levels before it. A cell cannot function without all its organelles working properly. Let’s talk about organelles.
