2. The name of my tribe is the Mohicans. It is pronounced (muh-HEE-can). It was produced from the word “muheconneok” Which means “From the waters that are never still”

3. In the past the Mohican tribe was ruled by a chief. Tribes called the Wappingers and Housatonics were also part of the Mohican nation.But each of those tribes had their own chiefs.

4. Mohicans now speak English. But in the past they had their own Mohican Language. The last Mohican that could speak that language died in 1933.

5. Mohicans placed their villages on hilltops near rivers, in their villages they longhouses gardens were constructed in these villages. During winter families would leave to hunt in specified territories. The older tribal members would stay in the village and make arts and crafts such as jewelry or and pottery.when the tribal members would return back from hunting, their would be rituals which would end in a large feast.

6. Mohican men lived as hunters,and at times, went to war to protect their families. Mohican women farmed and did a majority of the childcare and cooking. Both the men and women told stories, took part in art and music and traditional medicine. In the past, only men could be chiefs, but now a woman can also be chief of a tribe too.

7. Mohicans studied Christianity.

8. I think my tribe would be seen as a threatening tribe because of them being at war with the Mohawks from 1628 to 1675 and also their regular warring against the Iroquois.

9. The Mohicans originally settled in the Hudson River Valley.

10. Mohicans didn’t live in tepees, they lived in small round houses called Wigwams.
