Resource Valuation of Wastewater Management Wastewater is rarely known to be a resource and most persons are not concerned as to what happens to the water that leaves there drains of is flushed away. Nor is there an awareness that the disposal of wastewater can have negative impacts on the natural resources that they use on a daily basis, from water for drinking and recreational purposes, fisheries and tourism to name a few. Recent studies have shown that the discharge of untreated or poorly treated sewage poses a major threat to public health and has had a negative impact on the rich biodiversity of the Caribbean. Wastewater, especially sewage based on its nature when treated can be reused in many ways. The Sludge produce can be used for soil conditioning, covering of landfills and fertilizer once properly treated. Methane gas produced by some methods of treatment can be used as a source of energy.
