In The Watsons Go To Birmingham, the main character’s brother is sent to his grandparents in Birmingham, and just as the family is about to leave him behind and head back home, a bomb strikes the church where the boys’ sister was. All but the main character stayed outside the building, while he went inside and found his sister alive.
