Effects of unbalanced forces Objects accelerate Motion of objects is changed If object at rest, it is forced to move If object in motion, velocity changes Any change in velocity is acceleration

Acceleration depends on two things 1. Size and direction of FORCE Object with larger force produces more acceleration. 2. Mass of object Applying same force to two objects, object with smaller mass will accelerate more.

Newton’s Second Law F = (m)(a) The unbalanced force acting on an object is equal to the mass of the object times its acceleration. The unit for force is the Newton (N). 1 N = 1kg- m/sec/sec. So a force of 1 N will accelerate a mass of 1 kg at 1 m/sec/sec.
