+ Write down 2-3 sentences describing what’s interesting about the shape of the text. What does it look like the text is doing?

+ Wrapping text around an image Click on the Tool bar and grab the icon with the circle and drag it across the page to create your shape. With the black pointer tool on the tool bar drag the new circular shape over to some text you have on the page. It should sit slightly overlapping. Go under WINDOW>Text Wrap and a box will pop up with some options. With your black pointer tool click on the circular text wrap option. Your text next to it should begin to wrap around the page. Move the image closer and see what happens.

+ Making a less traditional wrap Click on the Pen tool and then back to your page Create an unusual shape by clicking on different points. When you are ready to close it up you must click the final point you started with and now you should have your shape. Got back to your tool bar and click on your black pointer tool on the tool bar drag the new shape over to some text you have on the page. It should sit slightly overlapping. Go under WINDOW>Text Wrap and a box will pop up with some options. With your black pointer tool click on the circular text wrap option. Your text next to it should begin to wrap around the page. Move the image closer and see what happens.

+ How to create wavy text Click on the Pen tool Go to your spread and drag it gently and make different points See the anchors, we used these in Illustrator they will allow you to control the angle and curve of the line. Don’t worry about getting it exactly right, you can edit it afterward. Go back to your anchor points and get the angle just right. Go to your T tool and hold it down until the sideways T tool shows up again. Click with that tool on your curvy line at the beginning of the line and a line should appear. Start typing and you will have wavy text.

+ Placing text in a shape Using the shape you created click on it with the black pointer tool. Go under OBJECT>Content>Text, this will convert it to a text box. Go under FILE>Place>grab some text and it will appear inside the shape.

+ Now practice Fill up your page and move things around. Experiment with the tools. You do not have to worry about the magazine assignment yet. We need to learn more tools before we are ready to really focus on the assignment.
